Signs You May Be Suffering from a Bed Bug Infestation

Last updated 1 year ago

Most everyone has heard about bed bugs, but few people actually know what they are and how they can affect their quality of life. Bed bugs are extremely small and can be almost impossible to identify or eliminate. Like mosquitoes, bed bugs feed off of blood, causing itching and irritation. Here are some signs that indicate you may be suffering from a bed bug infestation and require the services of an exterminator:

  • Visual Signs
One of the most reliable ways to spot bed bugs in your home is to check your bed sheets for signs. Often, bed bugs will leave rust-colored stains on your sheets. These stains are signs of excrement left by the bed bugs. Bed bugs may also leave behind dried-up skin, wings, eggs, and larvae. You may also spot dead bed bugs. If you see any of these signs, chances are you have a bed bug infestation.
  • Bites
Even if you are not able to find any visual signs of bed bugs in your home, you are sure to notice bites on your skin. Bed bug bites are rarely noticed at the time they occur since these pests generally feed at night when you are sleeping. Furthermore, signs of a bed bug bite do not arise immediately. Unlike mosquito bites, they can actually take a few days to appear. When they do appear, they manifest as small red bumps on the skin. Bed bug bites can lead to intense itching sensations caused by an allergic reaction to the bug’s saliva.

If you suspect that your home might be host to a bed bug infestation, consult a pest control expert immediately. Bed bugs are a serious public health hazard and failing to eliminate an infestation can dramatically affect your quality of life.
